Around 2am this morning I'd decided to knock off early and get home to watch the last night of Olympic swimming finals. Then stupid me stopped for a couple of drunken Korean idiots outside a pub in Campsie. Unfortunately, only one was a local whilst the other wanted Castle Hill. Pissed as farts they were but I had no choice, as I needed the money to make up for a poor night.
First though, they had a wrestle with much pushing, shoving and swearing over who wanted to pay the fare to Castle Hill. I didn't give a shit but to them honour and face was everything. Luckily for them they tussled at the open door or I would have pissed off. After taking a torrent of abuse and invective from the Castle Hill bloke, I finally got him home in record time.
While I raced back to base for the day driver, I managed to catch the last of superstar Grant Hacketts race on the radio. Just for the exercise I also did a recording, in my first in-cab, piece to camera. While I like the concept, as a first attempt it's nothing special with bad light and off the cuff remarks. It's your choice if you want to check it out as it's a rough tape.
Works no probs - seems to be looped and play twice though. Mic is very sensitive too, so lots of b/ground sound which probably isn't a problem when you know what the b/g's about but for a production piece b/g noise would need to be reduced as much as possible. Go Cecil!

I don't understand looping but with the background noise I had the window open a little. Must remember that.
Hmm, now you've got me thinking of setting up a cabbie-movie production company. Co-opt the Egyptian love god as partner and spend my time canvassing drivers as prospective outlets. I'd have to set up in either Lakemba or Auburn, wear a kaftan and white sandals, smoke a hooker and have a Persian casting couch. Oh, and probably another outlet in Cabramatta or Campsie for the Asian drivers. My Korean and Indian mates would be ideal partners there...Next step would be securing a spot on community TV. If 'Blokesworld' can do it so can we. 'Cabbiesworld' here we come. Stand by...
