Suckered

On arrival at the exclusive harbour side mansion, I pressed the intercom but received no response. Yet had the unnerving feeling of being watched via the video monitor. I shuffled my feet in front of the gate for a minute then decided to leave, figuring the fare had already gone.

Suddenly a female voice boomed indignantly, ‘Didn’t the gate open !?’. I turned to see a middle aged woman dressed in a short black cocktail dress and carrying a handbag. ‘Umm, no..’, I replied needlessly, as the automatic gate had obviously not opened.

Without hesitation she lifted one foot up onto the pedestrian security gate, revealing her coloured knickers. Embarrassed, I climbed back into the cab and watched her scale the ten foot gate, the skirt riding high around her hips. Elegance wasn’t her strong suite. After about a minute she managed to haul herself over the gate and climb safely down.

Hopping in the back seat she nominated an address in the same suburb, two minutes away. ‘Excuse me’, I said, ‘but aren’t you going to the City ?’. ‘No’. ‘But the bookings for the City’, I protested. No answer, no explanation, not even a pathetic lie. Not only had I been suckered with a false destination but I could smell alcohol, attitude and trouble.

This was one tough bitch I decided and so wisely elected not to challenge her. She was someone else’s nightmare and I sure as hell wasn’t going to ruin my Sunday standing up to her. Even when she plonked a $50 note on me for a $6.50 fare....with no apology. I simply bit my tongue and let her go, for I'd taken something she didn’t know about - an image of her stylish fence climb. I just couldn’t resist the opportunity.

Classy lady, ver-ry classy.
I think you've written on this before, but is there any particular social/economic group who are noticably better or worse than others to deal with? (excluding the obvious like street gangs etc.)

That's gold Adrian! I know it wasn't really worth your while, but it's made my Monday!

Hehehe! Nice booty shot there adrian! Some people just don't have any manners. Doesn't matter from which social strata you come!

Dirk, whilst there's not necessarily one group, ratbags across all social groups share the personal traits of arrogance, superciliousness, a sense of entitlement or sheer shittiness. (in the above case I guess her attitude stemmed from being forced to use a cab due to too much booze. Maybe her old man refused to let her drive, even though it was only a short trip).

Having said that, there is one mob I struggle with and it's drunk men in suits on Friday nights. On second thoughts, English girls can also be difficult. I better stop now !

What a scrubber.

...can't you get into serious trouble for taking secreted shots like this, Adrian? Tsk, but not really.

Kimmywoo, I can assure you she's nouveau riche, so there's not a drop of class in her. Something tells me she's probably a lot like the characters from "Footballers' Wives".

English girls sure can be difficult - that's why I married a sweet, easy going, kindly Aussie girl..... hold on a minute!
