"...my book is the epic of the human body ..."
Sydney's annual literary gathering celebrating James Joyce's Ulysses will focus on tracts that describe the activity of the human body such as eating, defecating and sexual orgasm.
A Sydney forensic pathologist (Prof Jo Duflou), a nutritional medicine expert and general practitioner (Dr Carole Hungerford), a surgeon (Dr Peter Campbell) and a neuropsychiatrist (Prof Perminder Sachdev) will present medical data to help us explore whether the wanderings in Ulysses can be understood by following the characters through the function of their Vagus nerve.
Actors Chris Heywood, Kate Mulvany and Danny Adcock will join in to bring Ulysses alive.
This programme will be followed by light refreshments and the singing of Joyce's favourite songs, with soprano, tenor and baritone accompanied by piano, violin and accordion.
When: Monday 16 June 2008, 6pm to 9pm
Venue: Kerry Packer Education Centre @ Royal Prince Alfred Hospital Camperdown (enter from Missenden Road/John Hopkins Drive).
Tickets: $20/$12 (concession). Refreshments included.
